A47 Rackhams Corner to Sparrows Nest - resurfacing

Dear Customer

I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out resurfacing on the A47 Rackhams Corner to Sparrows Nest. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface.

We plan to start work on Monday 16 September 2024 for approximately 12 weeks. Work will be carried out on weeknights only, between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

Engagement event

As part of our information sharing, members of the project team will be hosting an engagement event on Friday 6 September 2024, between 11am and 4pm, at Triangle Market in Lowestoft, NR32 1QA.

This will be a great opportunity for the team to meet with you, provide detailed information about the planned work and listen to any concerns you may have. We look forward to meeting you.

Enabling works

We will also need to undertake vegetation clearance, including cutting back overhanging trees along the A47 between Corton Roundabout and Sparrows Nest prior to resurfacing. Some properties whose trees overhang the A47 may be affected by tree cutting.

This will be carried out under 2-way traffic light system during daytime hours between Monday 30 September 2024 and Friday 11 October 2024, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To minimise disruption, works and traffic management will be phased as follows:

Closure

Date

Diversion

A47 between Station Road Roundabout (Hopton) and Gunton roundabout (Tesco’s)

Monday 16 September 2024 for approx. 4 weeks

Northbound: Traffic wishing to travel northbound from Blundeston roundabout will be diverted southbound on the A47 and A12 to Bloodmoor roundabout. At the roundabout, travel westbound along the A1145, and then on to the A146 towards Gillingham, before turning right onto Yarmouth Road (A143). Continue on the A143 towards Bradwell and then turn right at the roundabout where the A143 meets Beaufort Way (B1534) and follow the B1534 to Lowestoft Road Roundabout. Turn right to rejoin A47 traffic southbound towards Station Road roundabout.

Southbound: Traffic wishing to travel southbound from Station Road roundabout will follow the same diversion as above but in reverse. (Map 1)

A47 Blundeston Roundabout to Gunton Roundabout (Tesco’s)

Friday 11 October 2024 for approx. 3 weeks

Southbound: Traffic wishing to travel southbound from Blundeston roundabout will need to exit the A47 and take the third exit onto Millennium Way (A1117). Follow the A1117 towards Normanston Park and turn left at the roundabout onto Normanston Drive (A1144). Continue to St Peters Street roundabout to rejoin the A47 southbound.

Northbound: Traffic wishing to travel northbound from St Peters Street roundabout will follow the same diversion as above, but in reverse. (Map 2)
