Voters Now Need To Show ID

Voter ID

The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections. This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.

Which forms of ID can I use to vote?

You may already have a form of photo ID that is acceptable.  You can use any of the following:

•           Passport

•           Driving licence (including provisional license)

•           Blue badge

•           Certain concessionary travel cards

•           Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)

•           Biometric Immigration document

•           Defence identity card

•           Certain national identity cards

For more information on which forms of photo ID will be accepted, visit electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID or call their helpline on 0800 328 0280.

If you don’t have an accepted form photo ID

If you don’t already have an accepted form of photo ID, or you’re not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. You can apply for this at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk.

Alternatively, you can complete a paper application form and send this to the electoral services team at your local council.

If you need any help with applying for a Voter Authority Certificate or want to request an application form, contact your local council. To find their contact details visit electoralcommission.org.uk/voter.

If you have any questions or would like to find out more, go to electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID, or call their helpline on 0800 328 0280.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council – New Local Plan Options Consultation

6th Jan to 17th Feb 2023

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is preparing a new Local Plan which will set out a strategy for the development of the Borough over the period to 2041. It will set out the amount of new development needed and will determine where that development will go and how it should be delivered.

The new Local Plan will also contain planning policies that will be used in determining planning applications. The Local Plan will take into account the policies of existing and emerging Neighbourhood Plans and set a framework for future Neighbourhood Plans.

Everybody is invited to participate in a consultation to help inform the new Local Plan. This consultation aims to get your views on some of the key matters the new Local Plan will need to contain. The consultation comprises a series of questions to help the Council prepare the Local Plan.

The consultation seeks views on how much development we should be planning for and where that development should go. The consultation also asks questions on what infrastructure is needed and what planning policies they should have to manage new development.

The consultation can be viewed here: https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/planning-consultations

Comments can be made by using the interactive document available at the above link.

Alternatively, you can email a response to localplan@great-yarmouth.gov.uk quoting the question(s) or site(s) you are responding to.

They can also accept responses by post to Strategic Planning, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Town Hall, Hall Plain, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2QF.

There is a drop-in event in the Assembly Room at the Town Hall on 26th January from 4pm to 8pm where members of the public can talk to planning officers about the consultation and give their views.

Please ensure all comments are received by 5pm on 17th February 2023.

If you have any questions about the consultation, please contact the Borough Council’s Strategic Planning team using the contact details which can be found here: https://www.great-yarmouth.gov.uk/contactus/strategic-planning
